A lot in Pipe for 2023 🚀☁️ - Issue #23
Amazon EventBridge Pipes changing the way we are architecting Event-driven application
Starting 2023 with a bang! With the downside of Revue shutting down 😑 I was able to migrate to Substack and beginning with this issue successfully, the newsletter has a new name - The Serverless Terminal and some new cool things!
The ⭐ Pick of the month section highlights a feature/AWS Service with the relevant docs or references which can help you understand them and share your learnings with the AWS Community. The one that stands out will also be featured in the month’s 2nd issue.
Amazon EventBridge announced a feature during AWS re:Invent 2022 where you can integrate with multiple AWS Services creating a connection between source and target service using Amazon EventBridge features.
📢 What's new in AWS Serverless
Have you always worried about how secure your objects on S3 are? Well from now on, Amazon S3 automatically encrypts all new objects without any additional cost or taking a toll on performance.
Working with AWS Lambda functions which are triggered from SQS queue now supports maximum concurrency as an event source which makes it easier to scale Lambda functions when it’s subscribed to events from SQS.
🚀 AWSome content to learn from
Amazon EventBridge has launched EventBridge Pipes which enables integration between services, Alex Kearns shares a deep dive into EventBridge Pipe where he explains the different components involved and a walkthrough of how you can set up EventBridge Pipe with AWS CloudFormation.
Mario Bittencourt focuses on the source and target involved with EventBridge Pipe along with the feature of filtering leaving you with the thought, Is EventBridge Pipes the Missing Piece in Your Event-Driven Puzzle?
Elias Brange explains how EventBridge Pipes can level up the way you track changes in DynamoDB either for debugging or auditing purposes where Pipeline is configured with DynamoDB Stream as the source and CloudWatch Log being the target.
Build AWS Lambda Layers with AWS CDK by Ran Isenberg explains about AWS Lambda layers and why you would choose to create a Lambda layer with a tutorial on deploying one from AWS CDK.
With Revue shutting down, we started looking for alternatives but Allen Helton saw it differently, he saw an opportunity to build the newsletter which is powered with AWS Serverless; what an interesting thought! You can learn about how he has built it with the dive into the architecture of the solution and also it is Open Sourced.
Pawel Piwosz has started a Serverless Game! Where he shares a new requirement that needs a Serverless architecture, it’s been 2 weeks now, and excited about the different architectures coming up, so it’s not late for you can join as well.
⚒️ What's happening with AWS Serverless tools
Lars Jacobsson has built a Chrome extension that helps in syncing Step Functions workflow to your local system. You can find the details of how to install it from the GitHub repository and how he has built it with his detailed blog post.
AJ Stuyvenberg has released an npm package which is a Serverless Framework plugin to create CloudFormation ChangeSets called serverless-cloudformation-changesets-v2 and also another plugin that fetches the CloudWatch logs to the terminal serverless-run-watch.
Matthew Bonig has updated the StateMachine construct for AWS Step Functions with an update that will generate a strongly typed interface based on your ASL definition.
AWS SAM CLI update on sam validate which will now have the option to run cfn-lint for transformed Serverless templates. You can know more about it from Eric Johnson’s tweet.

⭐ Pick of the month
Innovating the way we learn, we will look into the feature of AWS Lambda functions URL feature.
AWS Lambda functions to support a new way of invocations directly from an URL. Function URLs support authentication, CORS handling, and many more things!
More information in AWS Lambda function URLs docs.
Previously had authored a blog post about the same. And now, I challenge you to learn about Lambda Function URLs and share them with the AWS Community.
👨💻 Word from author
2022 was a great year for me, you can read about it in my re:Wind 2022. Giving me the right motivation and a clearer pathway for 2023. I’m excited about what it holds. And taking a look back at the AWSome announcements from AWS during AWS re:Invent has surely given me an understanding of where Serverless is heading towards.
I look forward to the initiative and the different ways AWS Community could be skilled up with your learnings about AWS Lambda Function URLs.
Until next time, happy building on Serverless!
The first of many newsletter in the new format, excellent work 👏
