In the previous issue, Cold start for the newsletter 🚀☁️ #108 we looked into the enhanced EventBridge bus.
AWS Lambda introduces Lambda Web Functions, a serverless compute model that allows your code to process standard HTTP requests directly. Unlike traditional Lambda (Lambda Event Functions) which rely on event payloads and custom API Gateway integration layers, Web Functions operate like standard web servers. Your application simply listens on a port using familiar, off-the-shelf frameworks like Express, Hono, or Next.js without requiring adapters, custom wrappers, or code modifications.
Designed to handle modern request-response workloads such as AI inference, server-side rendered (SSR) web applications, and real-time streaming APIs, Web Functions deliver three core technical improvements:
Standard HTTP Server Model: Run web frameworks natively by listening directly on a local port.
Concurrent Request Execution: A single warm execution environment can process multiple concurrent requests, drastically reducing cold start frequency and lowering overall latency.
Active CPU Billing: You pay strictly for active CPU processing time and memory allocation, idle CPU time spent waiting on database queries or external API calls is non-chargeable.
⭐ Pick of the month
This month’s Pick is “Amazon Bedrock AgentCore“.
Jones Zachariah Noel (author) writes more on bringing traces to your AI agents with OpenTelemetry and Strands SDK the custom instrumentation along with the looking at AI specific attributes from your Strands and AgentCore agents.

👨💻 Word from the author
Thanks for the support and the newsletter is back after 2 months, while I was battling the thoughts on AI generated content and how overwhelming it’s becoming to read and curate the actual content that really stands out. I’m trying to put together a system for this, happy to have a chat!
I’m open to feedback, so feel free to DM me on LinkedIn for any queries about AWS or Serverless.
