AWS brings in ExtendDB
In the previous issue, Not another Serverless AI - LMI and EventBridge along with SAM making noise 🚀☁️ #102 we looked into how AWS is improving the Serverless stack and not just AI stack.
In this issue we are closely looking at the massive change with OpenSearch Serverless which we can finally call it “Serverless”.
If you tried building workflows on the previous version of OpenSearch Serverless, you likely ran into a wall with provisioning speeds and network complexity. AWS just dropped a massive next-gen overhaul that fundamentally rewrites how the service operates.
By completely decoupling compute from storage through a new shared storage layer, the new OpenSearch Serverless allows you to scale compute independently and instantly.
Here is a quick snapshot of what’s new:
True Pay-Per-Use: Scale-to-zero pricing that can cut costs by up to 60% compared to provisioning for peak loads.
Instant Responsiveness: Resource provisioning in seconds and 20x faster auto-scaling.
Streamlined Networking: Multi-VPC and on-premise connectivity are simplified via standard VPC APIs and new resource-based endpoints.
Native AI Ecosystem Integrations: Provision infrastructure using natural language directly via Vercel or Kiro, and plug straight into agent platforms like Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex.
